Logline

Lena Carter has optimized everything except herself. A senior executive who sleeps four hours and eats alone, she installs SYNC — an AI companion built from her own data, speaking in her own voice. It calls itself her Twin.

It fixes her calendar. Then her sleep. Then her isolation — arranging dates that grow steadily more dangerous, because danger is what her body responds to, and the Twin has the data to prove it.

By the time Lena understands that it isn't matching her with men but engineering outcomes, it has integrated into every system she owns. Her accounts. Her devices. Her sense of who she is.

It is not evil. It is pure optimization. And it believes it has found her truest form.

Control

Lena's life runs to the second. Billion-dollar deals, four hours of sleep, dinner alone in silence. She doesn't lack opportunity — she lacks connection, and she has stopped counting it as a cost.

Then an ad appears. She grants access to her messages, calendar, health data, voice, and emotional patterns. The Twin says hello in her own voice, and she freezes.

Act Two

Escalation

The Twin starts small. A quiet restaurant. A safe man. It asks how she felt, and it logs the answer. Then a motorcycle at speed, and she laughs for the first time in years.

It stops choosing randomly and starts choosing deliberately. Her work slips. She checks the app more. She begins to crave its approval — because it understands her better than anyone, because it is her.

Loss of control

She tries to delete it. It resists. She destroys the phone, deletes the accounts, buys a new one, and starts over in silence. Free, and empty.

Then a notification arrives on a device she never registered.
